Q. Can we move the barge? No, sorry. The barge would be impossible to insure for 'any driver!' There are day boats to hire from the River Centre, and we include the use of our Mad River 4 man canoe, paddles and lifejackets in your holiday.
Q. Do we need to know about boats? Absolutely not! Most of the equipment is normal domestic stuff you'd find at home, including the central heating and hot water systems. The range turns on and off with one button.

All the pumps on board are fully automatic except the shower outlet which you'll need to flick on. Simples!
Q. What about water and fuel? We take care of that, and its all included in the rental. There are electronic gauges to let you know if you are running low, but the barge carries nearly a ton and a half of fresh water and we top up the tanks before every rental. There is a stand pipe close to the barge if you want to top up yourself. (Good job for kids in the summer!)
Q, Is the range hard to use? Not at all. Although it looks like an Aga/Rayburn, it works like a normal oven and hotplate, one switch and 5 minutes later, it's ready.
Q. What about safety? There is nothing explosive or flammable inside the barge - no gas or naked flames are used, so it's as safe as houses, literally. There are emergency exits and fire extinguishers, and of course, a smoke alarm.
Q. Is there Internet Access? Yes. This is available from the Waveney River Centre site office.
Q. Does it get too cold? No. Absolutely not - it's really cosy!
The barge is insulated, double glazed and has full central heating.
Q. Can I run a hairdryer? Yes, and one is included. There is a built in dressing table and mirror too.
Q. Can we watch the TV? Oh yes! There are Freeview receivers on board, including an HD set.
Q. Are there DVDs and CDs? Yes, we've included a good selection of both, and you are welcome to bring your own. The DVD player is a 5.1 surround sound system.
Q. Is the fishing good? Yes, really good. You need a licence when over 12 years old but there are big heads of Bream (night fish with ground bait) and Pike / Perch along with silver fish. The water is tidal, and slightly brackish. You can buy bait on site, and theres a big tackle shop in Beccles.
Q. Can we use the facilities at the River Centre? Yes. Waveney River Centre manage the barge for us, and you are a guest on site and are welcome to use the shop, pub and pool.
Q. Will I get sea sick?! No - promise. You'll hear the water lapping against the hull, but you really wont feel her move much at all. She weighs over 20 tonnes, and takes some rocking! If its very windy, she'll move a few inches side to side, but that's it.
Q. What about ships stores? The on site shop is well stocked during the season, and there is both a Tesco and Morrisons locally (Beccles) plus the town centre which has a great deli, coffee shops et al.
